<div id="bdab" style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; min-height: 560px;">
<div id="bd" class="content" style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.4;"><em><a style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #3060e0; text-decoration: none;" href="http://www.prlog.org/">PRLog (Press Release)</a></em> – <em>May 12, 2011</em> – Hollywood, CA – Days before Charlie Sheen embarked upon his “Violent Torpedo of Truth” tour, he asked rock star guitarist Rob Patterson (on break from his band Filter, formerly of KORN) to accompany him on the road and write some original music for the shows. The centerpiece song was a tune called of course “Winning”. Admittedly, the song according to Patterson and Sheen is “meant to be fun and entertaining…and we honestly don’t want it to be taken seriously”. <br /><br />The song (and subsequent versions) is now available digitally, with portions of the proceeds being donated to Sheen’s Torpedos against Tornados (www.torpedosagainsttornados.com) for victims of the storms that raged through Alabama, in April of 2011. <br /><br />The various mixes of the song have a rock and rap vibe. Patterson goes on to say that Snoop was THE perfect person to write the lyrics. Sheen agreed, saying in a recent interview that he “had a short list of people who would be able to carry the ‘winning’ wildfire the best” and he concluded that “Snoop was on the top of that list”. <br /><br />The night before Sheen and Patterson had left for the Violent Torpedo tour, they had set up a make-shift recording studio in Sheen’s house. Snoop came over and within minutes had tapped out the lyrics to the song on his BlackBerry. “Snoop is a warlock” Sheen said. Patterson commented that “we were shocked at how quickly and professionally he was able to just bang it out”. <br /><br />In a recent appearance on the George Lopez Show, Snoop Dogg commented on Charlie Sheen by saying that “He’s a brilliant guy. I’m having so much fun just bein’ around him”. Snoop goes on to say “You’ve gotta understand one thing about me…I’m different. I love havin’ relationships with different people, who aren’t the normal, aren’t the usual. And one thing about Charlie…he’s not normal, he’s not the usual. We’re makin’ some classic material”. <br /><br />There's an R-rated version of the song, as Patterson calls it, a more rap style filled with lots of four-letter words. Meanwhile, the family version, as Rob Christie, president of Robo Records (Distributed by Universal/Fontana), describes it, is in more of a rock style, which they hope will make a popular selection at sporting stadiums across the country. “To me” Christie commented, “it’s like a modern day ‘Rocky’ theme that would pump anybody up!” <br /><br />"The song started off being about Charlie Sheen," Patterson said. "But when Snoop came in, we didn't want it to be just about Charlie and repeating his key phrases. It's unilaterally about winning." <br /><br />The song “Winning” has various mixes: Main (Rap) Mix (featuring a cameo from pop culture icon Carmen Electra, the ultimate trophy to any winner), Rock Mix, Rock Arena Mix, along with both explicit and clean versions of each. All versions were launched May 10, 2011 and are currently available wherever digital music is sold world-wide. Plans for physical CDs and 12 inch DJ vinyl pressings will be available in the coming weeks, with some possible remixes. <br /><br />"People will love the song," Sheen said. "Who doesn't like to be winning?" <br /><br />For a sneak peak preview snippet of the video and song, search 1276631126 YouTube for: “Winning by Rob Patterson & Snoop Dogg, featuring Charlie Sheen, official snippet video”…or simply click here:<a style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #3060e0;" href="http://youtu.be/jPhcIrB255I" target="_blank">http://youtu.be/jPhcIrB255I</a> (or paste into your browser). <br /><br />Winning is available through iTunes at these links: <br /><a style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #3060e0;" href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/winning-feat-charlie-sheen/id436789167" target="_blank">http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/winning-feat-charlie-sh ...</a> (explicit) <br /><a style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #3060e0;" href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/winning-feat-charlie-sheen-ep/id436789470" target="_blank">http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/winning-feat-charlie-sh ...</a> (clean) <br /><br /><br /><br />For More Information Contact: <br /><br />Karen Webb or Rob Christie <br />info@RoboRecords.net <br />PR Squared Public Relations <br />(323) 375-6376 <br /><br />Rob Patterson is managed by: <br />Jamie Talbot <br />Sanctuary Artist Management <br />(310) 865-4824</div>

And while you'd be forgiven a reflex eye roll, the tune, penned and performed by Snoop Dogg with music by former Korn guitarist Rob Patterson, is no joke.<br /><br />"Look, it's a good song," Patterson said, hours after wrapping up his final My Violent Torpedo of Truth tour performance alongside his longtime pal Sheen. "But I honestly don't want people to take it seriously. It's meant to be fun and entertaining."<br /><br />Sheen put it a little more bluntly on his Twitter page.<br /><br />"Get ready to rock the Sheenius," he said of the song.</p>

"Who doesn't like to be winning?"<br /><br />Sheen asked Patterson to write and perform original music for the Violent Torpedo tour. Patterson, on break from his current group, a re-formed Filter, wrote about eight tunes, including one that sounds equal parts rap and pop. And Snoop, Patterson decided, would be the perfect artist to write the lyrics. Sheen agreed, saying he had "a short list of people who would be able to carry the 'winning' wildfire the best."
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 20px; text-align: left; ">"Snoop was on top of that list," Sheen said.</p>

Within minutes, Snoop had responded.<br /><br />"I didn't know how he'd react, because people have been kind of divided about Charlie," Patterson said. "But he's definitely, for lack of a better term, on Charlie's team."<br /><br />Days later, Snoop sat in Sheen's home studio, flanked by Patterson and Sheen, listening to the music. And 45 minutes later, he had tapped out the words to "Winning" on his BlackBerry. Then they recorded.</p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 20px; text-align: left; "><a style="font-weight: normal; color: #2262cc; text-decoration: none; display: inline; " href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef014e88511a27970d-pi"><img class="asset asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341c630a53ef014e88511a27970d" style="display: block; margin-bottom: 10px; width: 600px; border: 0px initial initial;" title="Snoop-dogg charlie sheen rap" src="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef014e88511a27970d-600wi" alt="Snoop-dogg-charlie-sheen rap" /></a></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 20px; text-align: left; ">"Snoop is a warlock," Sheen said. "He came in and nailed it in a couple of hours."<br /><br />"He arrived at 9 p.m. and was out by 11 p.m.," added Patterson. "We were all shocked by how quickly and how professionally he was able to just bang it out."<br /><br />It was the night before Sheen and Patterson were leaving for his tour.<br /><br />"So Rob had to take over and finish the song in various hotel rooms," Sheen said.<br /><br />And if Sheen, "Winning" and Snoop weren't enough to earn the song a spot in the pop culture hall of fame, then there's the dash of Carmen Electra. Electra, who is engaged to Patterson, starts off the song with a sultry sounding, "Oh, good evening, Mr. Sheen. Are you winning?"<br /><br />"No," replies Snoop. "He's smokin' right now!"<br /><br />"Winning, winning, winning," Sheen cuts in.<br /><br />There's an R-rated version of the song, as Patterson calls it, a more rap style filled with lots of four-letter words. Meanwhile, the family version, as Rob Christie, president of Waterfront Entertainment/Robo Records, describes it, is in more of a rock style, which they hope will make it a popular selection at sporting stadiums across the country.<br /><br />"The song started off being about Charlie Sheen," Patterson said. "But when Snoop came in, I said I didn't want it to be just about Charlie and repeating his key phrases. It's unilaterally about winning."<br /><br />Christie, in fact, sees the song as a kind of modern-day "Rocky" tune and is pushing to have the song it played at sporting events.<br /><br />But the question remains -- are people sick of Sheen and his "Winning" tirade? Has it become an old joke whose punch line no longer delivers?<br /><br />No way, said Patterson.<br /><br />"This morning," he added, "I went on Twitter and learned the phrase 'Winning' was being used every 20 seconds. Still. So I don't know if people are tired or the '15 minutes of fame' or whatever is coming to a close. But the music itself and the song will hold water, no matter what."</p>

<div style="margin-left: 5px; width: 500px;"><a href="http://hangout.altsounds.com/features/129009-lowdown-rob-patterson-filter.html">Rob Patterson has had an exciting and varied music career. Former guitarist for Korn and Otep, last year he joined the band Filter and will be touring Europe with them in June. He has recently collaborated with Charlie Sheen and Snoop Dogg. Patterson is also known for doing DJ shows while playing guitar, and is engaged to the lovely Carmen Electra. We caught up with Rob to talk about his experiences in the music industry.<br /><strong><br />AltSounds: You joined Filter last year. How are you finding it compared to the bands you’ve played with previously?</strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: Its very fun and stimulating. I enjoy being the primary guitar player. It's very rewarding. The songs basically play themselves. It's good stuff.<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: The latest album <em>The Trouble with Angels</em> is considered by many to be a return to the sound of the early albums of Filter. As a new band member, how much did you feel you were able to contribute to this sound?</strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: I joined at the tail end of the record, so I only got to write and record one song, which is “Shot from the Sun”. I think the next record will have a lot of my input!<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: Do you feel your time with Otep/Korn has influenced your contribution to Filter? </strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: Only in the way I attack my live show, and my touring/band experience.<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: Otep is a female fronted band, did this make a difference to how the band functioned? </strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: Lets put it this way, I will never be in a female fronted band ever again.<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: You’ve played some great gigs in some fantastic bands over the years. Do any in particular stand out?</strong> <br /><br />Rob Patterson: Rock Am Ring in Germany with Korn.. I think it was something like 90,000 people. It was a rush to say the least.<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: Filter has a European tour coming up in a few months. Do you enjoy being on tour? </strong><br /><br />?Rob Patterson: I love touring, I love meeting people, seeing different places.. Especially in Europe!<br /><br /><img style="max-width: 530px; border: 0px none initial;" src="http://hangout.altsounds.com/attachments/features/8032d1303987454-lowdown-rob-patterson-filter-filter_band_photo1.jpg?stc=1" border="0" alt="" /><br /><br />

<strong>AltSounds: </strong><strong>You’ve recently recorded a track with Charlie Sheen and Snoop Dogg. What was that like?</strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: Very pro and easy. Those guys know how to, and want to work, so it made my job easy .<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: </strong><strong>You are the Musical Director for Charlie Sheen’s current tour “My Violent Torpedo of Truth/ Defeat Is Not an Option.” How did you get involved in the project? </strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: Charlie called me and asked me to do music for the tour. Then he said “you’re going on tour with me!” so...I did. <br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: You’ve done a lot of work with Sheen recently. What’s he like as a person?</strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: He is a great person, funny, smart , and real easy to work with and hang out with. He is a true friend. <br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: You’ve also started teaching Sheen’s girlfriend Natty Kenly guitar. Do you find teaching rewarding?</strong><br />?<br />Rob Patterson: I love teaching, especially when my students are talented and take it seriously. Natty is both.<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: Did you ever have any formal guitar lessons yourself?</strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: Here and there, I'm 90% self taught. <br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: Did you always want to be a musician?</strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: As long as I can remember, yes. My father was a Cellist in the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 42 years. All I knew all my life was music, music, and more music.<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: What music do you listen to?</strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: All kinds. Right now I am into weird stuff. I also love Combichrist right now.<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: You’ve released solo work in the past with ‘Dr.Z’ EP. Are there any plans to release a full length album? </strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: I'm working on it now and will be until I think it’s done, which could be in 12 months or a year. I do have an EP on iTunes right now...4-5 songs...was more of a demo I just threw up.<br /><br /><strong>AltSounds: You’ve taken on a lot of interesting projects over the last few years. What’s next?? </strong><br /><br />Rob Patterson: Wherever this life takes me! I never know!<br /><br /><strong>For more information:</strong>

The picture, with no details only, showed Sheen, Patterson, and Snoop sitting together.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;">Guitarist Rob Patterson has been enjoying his unique journey in the music industry. He is known as a guitarist for Filter, whose latest album is “The Trouble with Angels,” but he just joined the band last year. He has also played with Otep and Korn. Patterson is also known for doing DJ shows while playing guitar.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;">We might get to see a new side of Patterson in his up-coming tour — Charlie Sheen’s sold out “My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option” tour, which will kick off on April 2. Before going on the road, Blast got a chance to chat with him about what he’s been up to.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: You joined Filter last year. How’s it been playing with them?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>ROB PATTERSON:</strong> It’s been really exciting, fun, and, you know, I’ve been a Filter fan since when they first came out. And, they and I been friends for, you know, a number of years, like 5 or 6 years, and, you know, which is kind of, so [that] happened [because] we wanted to work each other and we both were willing to do that. So, it’s been really great.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: What did you bring to the band?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> I think that I come from more of a heavy guitar kind of that background. I mean, some of the bands I’ve been in, like the band that I started [called] Otep back in 2000, um, super heavy. And then, I’ve been in Korn for a few years, which obviously, you know, really, playing with those guys had a lot to, you know, [playing with them has] been influenced me a lot. So, I think, I bring kind of a heavier chunkier aspect to Filter.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><a style="color: #0e3b6f; text-decoration: none;" rel="lightbox[59392]" href="http://blastmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/1.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-59394" style="float: right; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 10px; display: inline; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; border: initial none initial;" title="Rob Patterson is the current guitarist for the band Filter" src="http://blastmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/1-195x300.jpg" alt="" width="195" height="300" /></a><strong>BLAST: Filter will go on a tour in Europe in June. Are you excited?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> Oh yeah! I love touring Europe. It’s like one of my favorite things to do. I think that’s a favorite thing to do in a band, especially like, the cultures, architecture — really great. I’m really looking forward to it.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: What has been your main music influence?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP: </strong>Um, well, let’s talk about the shit. Um, well, as I was growing up, I was really into classic rock. I don’t know if it was called classic back then but it is now. Um, I was really into the bands like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and as soon as I started playing guitar, I started really getting into like Van Halen, um, you know, the bands or stuff like that. I started getting into like heavier rock bands. Van Halen is, you know, one of my favorites. Eddie Van Halen is probably like my biggest influence.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: You are the Musical Director for Charlie Sheen’s tour “My Violent Torpedo of Truth/ Defeat Is Not an Option,” which will start on April 2. What’s this tour all about?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> Well, I can’t talk too much about that, but I can tell you that it’s going to be extremely entertaining. It’s going to be stimulating. It’s going to be very, um, smart? It’s going to be music interlaced [with music] that I wrote, throughout the show. Um, you know, Charlie is pretty much the funniest man that I know. And, he wants to get his truth out to the public. And, it’s up here. And, the public wants to hear it. So, I just think it’s a great opportunity for me, you know. I am extremely grateful for the job and, you know, it’s an interesting gig! You know, we’ve all been working extremely hard over the last couple of weeks and put this altogether. And, I do not think anyone is going to be disappointed.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: The first show is sold out. The tickets were gone in 15 minutes.</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> Yeah, it’s crazy. I don’t know if we are playing in Boston, but I’m from Boston.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: Is Charlie Sheen singing with your guitar performance at shows?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> Ahhh, I am not gonna give that away! It’s for the people who would be at the show and I guess it’s, kind of, all surprise, really. Everything is, kind of, under, you know, kind of a top secret right now as far as the content of the show.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;">I can say that I’m playing guitar at the show.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><a style="color: #0e3b6f; text-decoration: none;" rel="lightbox[59392]" href="http://blastmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/3.jpg"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-59395" style="float: right; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 10px; display: inline; max-width: 100%; padding: 0px; border: initial none initial;" title="3" src="http://blastmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/3-216x300.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="300" /></a><strong>BLAST: You are also working on what looks like a song or other music project with Sheen and Snoop Dogg. How did it all start?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> Um, well, we wanted to do a song for the soundtrack for the tour. And, I just thought that Snoop would be a great person to, you know, add to our ensemble of people. And, you know, I reached out to him and he immediately was very excited about it, which (the collaboration) kind of happened from there. And, you know, I wrote a bunch of music, you know, a bunch of tracks for him to do his thing on, and he did a thing on it. So, I think it’s gonna be really great.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: Is this serious business or fun stuff?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP: </strong>Well, you know what, I personally think that music in general should be really fun first and then, business second. So, I don’t really think of it in the business aspect of it because that would really narrow my field of thinking when it comes to writing music. So I just think it’s something to do for fun and, you know, I don’t know who said it but they said, “If there is something you love to do or work, then don’t be like you are ever working.” That’s kind of my motto. I do everything in music, you know, for fun. If it’s not fun, then what’s the point? You know?</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: When can we get to listen to the music?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> Ah, that’s also a secret. (Laughs)</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;">You know, I don’t know. Everything is happening so quickly with all of it. And, it’s kind of like a guerrilla style, you know. Everything is that way. Recording, experience, and everything is, kind of like, happening everyday, and something new is going on. It will be soon! It will definitely be soon. When I read that on a social media site, a lot of people are very highly anticipated [to listen to] the song, which, you know, obviously, is definitely pressure on me but yeah, that will be soon. I can’t give you an exact date, though.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: Is it finished?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> That I can’t answer. I think it’s happening all the time. It’s a work in progress right now.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: Is Snoop Dogg joining you guys for the tour?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> The answer for that question is, “Go to a show and find out!” I can neither confirm nor deny that!</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: I heard you’ve been teaching Charlie Sheen how to play guitar. Is that true?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> I’ve been teaching his girl Natty (Natalie Kenly) how to play guitar.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: Is she good?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> She is really good. She is one of my best students I’ve ever got, actually. She really takes it seriously. She cut her nails! I didn’t even ask her to! Most girls, you know, refuse to cut their nails. It’s a problem when you start playing guitar. But Natty, after I first met her, I didn’t even ask her, but next week, she came back and cut her nails really short. I was like, “Wow!” So, she really takes it seriously and she is really good.</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: Charlie Sheen has been getting so much attention this year in every way. Can you tell us what kind of person he really is?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> Charlie is a wonderful, generous, smart, funny, and kind person. He is a family man. He is a very good friend, not [only] just [with] me but with all [his] friends. He is just a really great guy!</p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>BLAST: Can I get some message form you to all the people who are going to see your shows with Charlie Sheen?</strong></p>
<p style="padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong>RP:</strong> Ah, OK, I’ll say, for all people who are coming to our show, people can have your mind blown. And, you know, be prepared to experience Charlie and hear stuff from him that you won’t get anywhere else. And, you know, it will definitely give you something to think about.</p>

<p>Rob Patterson, the guitarist for Filter (previously with Korn and Otep) is engaged to Carmen Electra but has never hit on a girl. Apparently he was also a huge nerd in high school. (I seriously doubt this.) I had the chance to sit down and talk about sex tips, the future of rock music, and Charlie Sheen. Below is a transcript of our conversation. Rob is an AMAZING guy and I was so lucky to have this incredibly candid talk with him. It’s also fantastic that he apparently tweets from the toilet.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff00ff; font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 20px; font-size: 13px;">Zooey: It’s a popular idea that the music industry has transitioned from grunge, drugs sex and rock and roll to Twitter and Justin Bieber and popstars. Do you think that’s true?</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: That it’s transformed? Yes and no. I mean you can’t deny the effect that social media has had upon music. The ability of the artist to be sitting there, wherever in the bathroom, to send something out that 5 million people are going to be waiting and hanging on every word. Before, well the drugs still happen I think</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">For me personally, I didn’t get into music for the whole drugs sex and rock and roll. I was really into playing the guitar as a kid. That stuff just kind of happened, which is fine. Not the drug part, I mean. I’m a recovering heroin addict. But yeah it has definitely transformed it’s made it very… I kind of enjoy it though. I like the fact that in a certain way the music industry has taken an turn for the way worse. And the fact that you can just follow an artist straight away on Twitter or Facebook and <strong style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">we can say our own things</strong> and we’re not their mouthpiece through a filter. I think it’s a great thing. It can be bad in some cases. You have to be careful what you say.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #ff00ff; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Zooey: You were part of a book that was recently published called Sex Tips from Rock Stars. In your experience do you think musicians get laid more often? What is one tip you would give to my readers?</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: Yes. Definitely. All I can say is if you’re a guy. Girls, I don’t want to generalize or stereotype anyone but girls have a soft spot for musicians. I don’t know, in my case I find that girls like the edgy. As my current relationship, the girl I’m engaged to, guys that have been through a lot in their lives, not necessarily musicians, and come out the other side are very attractive to females. I think a lot of girls are attracted to musicians that are just crazy and fucked up. But I think they learn after a while that it gets bad.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">But if I had to say one thing: <strong style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">If you’re not a musician, become one</strong>. If you were going to pick an instrument pick guitar. I would say don’t give yourself away, don’t be obnoxiously overtly outgoing. Because that, you know, guys who just lay it all out on the table. <em style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">I’m not sure if I’ve actually ever hit on a girl</strong></em>. Girls in my past have introduced me to a friend and they will say later that your friend rob is such a fucking asshole. That’s just how it went with me.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;"><strong style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">I grew up a fucking nerd, a computer hacker, the most picked on guy in my school. Hands down.</strong></span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #ff00ff; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Zooey: So did music play a huge role in changing that?</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: Absolutely, it changed everything.</span></p>

<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: I keep getting side tracked by other projects. Like this thing with Filter which is great. It’s still happening. I’ve actually been working on a couple other things. When I actually go home and get time off the last thing I want to do is fire up my studio and write some songs. It will happen though, eventually.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #ff00ff; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Zooey: I know you hung out with Charlie Sheen in the beginning of his recent media blitz. Are you good friends with him? He says that he’s playing a role for the media, what is his personality really like off camera?</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: Yes, I am good friends with him but I’ve never heard him say that. Um, I really can’t answer that question.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">He is one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met. Whenever I hangout with that dude we’re always laughing. See I don’t want to give up too much but he’s very sweet. We’re always laughing. His house is very much like a family home. There’s not a bunch of stripper poles and girls flying around. It’s not like that. He’s just a very sweet, generous, very kind person.</span></p>

It’s funny that you say it changes the dynamic because we have a joke in Filter we were just having that discussion. We were going to have a merch girl come on and I said no. Simply because it’s changing. It’s a frat house almost. When you’re changing you don’t want to accidentally walk in on the girl. But Otep is a completely different thing.</span></span></p>

<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: Well, we’ll start with Otep. She is one of a kind. She is very intense. She is very driven about what she does. She likes to have things a certain way and it works for her. I don’t know. Richard is just Richard. Hes a great guy, funny, really easy to hang out. Me and him get into a lot of arguments too. You can’t be in a band with someone for more than two weeks and not get into a fight at some point. It’s like having a boyfriend or a girlfriend or being married. It’s no different except <strong style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">you can’t have make up sex</strong>. Well you can if you want.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #ff00ff; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Zooey: Filter released Trouble with Angels last year, how involved were you in the creation of the album?</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: One song, I have this knack of joining bands when they are mixing their records. Korn was mixing <em style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">See You on the Other Side </em>when I joined. And this one, he was mixing this record but they actually went in and wrote another song so Phill the bass player and I could be a part of it. The next one will be more involved.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #ff00ff; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Zooey: Your finance Carmen Electra is gorgeous, what is it about her personality that attracted you most to her?</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: She’s a little gangster. That’s the best way I can put it. She’s a little gangster.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #ff00ff; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Zooey: Did you have any reservations about going out with a celebrity? I’m sure that when a rockstar and a famous actress go out in public it’s hard to keep a low profile, what do you guys do to escape the media scrutiny?</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: No, a person is a person. At times I wish, I’ve said this to her, I wish you were a waitress. You know because it gets overly, it’s weird, as a normal person I can get in the car and drive down my street and get coffee. She can’t do that. You get used to it, and <strong style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">it gets annoying</strong> and then it doesn’t get annoying, but you know what, as far as in her case. I don’t care if there are people waiting outside the house all day every day. <strong style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">She’s worth it</strong>. She’s so great.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #ff00ff; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Zooey: What are Filter’s plans for the rest of the year?</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #666699; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Rob: We just recorded a ZZ TOP cover <em style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Give Me All Your Loving</em> and we are going to release that soon I think. The next thing we are doing for sure is a European Tour coming up <strong style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">if Europe is still there</strong> by that time in the beginning of June. We’re going to Russia, we’re going all over. I love Russia, is Russia considered part of Europe? Yeah. It’s my favorite part of Europe.</span></p>
<p style="margin-top: 10px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; font: normal normal normal 13px/20px Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #eaeaea; text-align: justify; padding: 0px;"><span style="list-style-type: none; list-style-position: initial; list-style-image: initial; color: #ff00ff; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;">Zooey: Alright, well that about wraps it up. Is there anything you want to add?</span></p>

If you’re into sex and music my fiancé is in it and she’s making out with a girl. It’s sexy and it’s a really good song.</span></p>
